an Francisco artist Krista Sheldon had an early interest in art
that
began with her own business as a textile designer. "I've always enjoyed
working with colors and experimenting with textures in a fabric medium.
However, after 10 years in the business, I was ready to explore other
possibilities for my art."
Krista's inspiration to paint evolved from extensive travel abroad as well as comprehensive study of art history. "I strive to convey the tranquil beauty and timeless appeal that reflect the art that was created by ancient Mediterranean cultures".
Krista creates original paintings on canvas using a mixed media which include acrylics, oils, watercolor, gold leaf and hand carved wood block images. Multiple layering of these media create depth and dimension. Finally, scraping and distressing techniques are used to achieve an aged-by-time effect. The artist's unique sense of color and refined patterns also originates from her career in textile design. "My objective is to revive the elegance reminiscent of the murals and frescoes found in Crete, Knossos and Pompeii".
Krista's art can be found in galleries and juried art fairs throughout the United States.
